My Warrior Path
Sean Williams sensei began his journey in budo in 2004 in Largo, Maryland . Growing up in a challenging home environment, he sought an outlet that could provide him with guidance and a sense of belonging. He found this in the world of martial arts and turned to Jamie Ellerbe Hanshi for mentorship. Under Hanshi’s guidance, Williams sensei navigated the complexities of adolescence, finding stability and purpose through martial discipline.
Initially, Williams sensei faced a cultural shock when introduced to the traditional world of Bujutsu. However, he quickly developed a deep appreciation for its historical roots and the strong sense of family that it fostered. This connection was especially significant, as he found in the art not only a physical discipline but also a lineage of values and traditions that resonated deeply with him.
Williams sensei is a direct student of Jamie Ellerbe Hanshi, our 1st Kancho of the Nagano Ryu Heihou Kyokai. Under Hanshi’s guidance, he took on the role of the Nagano Ryu General Secretary & National Historian and Scribe. In this role, he has been entrusted with the duty of documenting the rich history and lineage of the Ryuha, preserving its legacy for future generations.
On August 18, 2024, Williams Daihan received permission to establish a branch school of Nagano Ryu in Charlotte, North Carolina. This new school is the first of its kind in the region, expanding the reach of Nagano Ryu and offering a place for students to immerse themselves in the teachings of this warrior tradition. The Nagano Ryu Heihou Ryushin Dojo, under his leadership, is dedicated to passing down the teachings of his sensei and ensuring the traditions of the Ryuha endures.
Williams sensei is proud to serve as a representative of The Nagano Ryu Heihou Kyokai and remains committed to preserving the heritage of the Ryuha. His efforts are focused on nurturing the next generation of practitioners, sharing the depth of Nagano Ryu’s history, and fostering a deeper understanding of its principles. Through his dedication, he continues to help the Ryuha grow, ensuring that the traditions of Nagano Ryu Heihou are carried forward with respect and authenticity.
